It was preceded by at least as much hype as was Y2k. If you had time prior to pay attention to all the breathless coverage provided by anchors, bloggers and various and sundry social media types, we were all about to be hit by mass chaos and hysteria; the likes of which America had never seen before!
Rivers would reverse course, toilets would flush counter-clock wise, the nocturnal animal kingdom would simultaneously appear all across America in mid-morning, pets would all lie down and go to sleep in unison, as the children and grandchildren of Woodstock danced, sang, filled stadiums and campgrounds, partied and clogged travel from Seattle to Key West!
As is the case with past undelivered mayhem, the forecast was much worse than the storm.
What Eclipse 2017 did provide us with was a joy-filled, much-needed break from the stress and anxiety of the daily grind of our bitterly divided land. It took hate off the front page for awhile. It gave us something to occupy our minds and agree on, at least for a little while. The USA showed again it can come together when it wants to, and wasn’t it fun!?
Let’s do it again, and soon! The next time you see our population at its collective throats again, please remember that the other side can also be a pretty fun group!
